Waterfall! (July 9)

Waterfall!!

On Sunday we went to Kilimanjaro for a day hike to the largest waterfall in the region created by a melting glacier at the summit.

The drive from moshi to the starting point of our hike was about 45 minutes. We travelled in a town van for the first time. Normally when you see these vans they are packed with people, but we each had our own seat.
The scenery was beautiful!

Cathy's friend Victoria was our guide. She showed us coffee plants and told us that after the hike we would have a chance to visit Doctor Coffee's plantation.

On the way we stopped to take some pictures of the view and a chameleon was spotted.  ðŸ¦Ž  I love looking at them every time I go to the pet store so this was wild! Literally.

The hike was really fun. It was pole pole! I asked Garrett if that's how slow they go climbing the mountain and he said even slower.

Hmmmm...not sure I could walk that slow for 6 hours a day for 5 days!

At one point we crossed a stream. Ashley went first and crossed on the rocks. For some reason I decided to step on the WET board (duh!) and slipped. I fell back and my sunglasses went flying. Luckily they were able to be fished out.

At one point we came across 3 children near a papaya tree. The girl shimmied up the tree to throw down some fruit for us!

We saw increasing views of the waterfall.

Once we got there it was spectacular!  Ashley, Garrett and I went down to the bottom for a picture. It was cold!

This was where we stopped for lunch. Best spot ever. Owen and I sat on a bench along the side of the fall. I couldn't stop staring at it.

On the way back another chameleon was spotted. This one was male and tried his best to look fierce!!

We hiked back to the vehicle and headed to see Dr Coffee. At one point the van couldn't make it up the hill so we all had to get out!  It's amazing the wear and tear these vehicles take.

Doctor Coffee was quite a character!
